Germany Job Seeker Visa (Opportunity Card – Chancekarte) (1-Year Validity)

Germany offers the Opportunity Card (Chancekarte), a one-year job seeker visa that allows professionals to enter the country and search for employment. The visa is granted based on a points system, with a minimum of 6 points required to qualify.

Points-Based Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must accumulate at least 6 points, which are awarded based on the following factors:

Age
  • Under 35 years2 points

Work Experience
  • At least 1 year of experience1 point

Requirements After Achieving 6 Points

  • Language Proficiency:

    • English certificate (minimum B2 level) OR
    • German certificate (minimum A1 level)

  • Financial Proof:

    • Blocked Bank Account: A minimum balance of €12,324 (approximately €1,027 per month) OR
    • Proof of Sponsorship (Verpflichtungserklärung): A notarized and government-approved financial guarantee from a sponsor residing in Germany.

Residency & Work Permit Transition

  • After securing a job, applicants receive a two-year work residency permit.
  • The permit can be renewed for another two years.
  • After 5 years, applicants become eligible for permanent residency and citizenship.
  • Family Reunification is possible after 6 months of working in Germany.
